Spiritual Adoption – Not Hosting

Families are asked to see the student as an adoptee not a guest. The differences between the two emphasize relationship.

• “Spiritually” Adopting means a permanent relationship; ONLY hosting is a temporary time frame.
• “Spiritually” Adopting means extended family relationships: the whole family is involved; ONLY hosting means (usually) the mother.
• “Spiritually” Adopting means extended relationships in the cross-cultural region; ONLY hosting means a thank you note from the parents.

By “Spiritually” Adopting a child, the American parents and family step up their commitment. By “Spiritually” adopting a child, American families enter a closed relational network in another culture as they become family.
